Note 2: Close versions of this subject were published, in the same direction, by Jean Leclerc IV (1555-1621/22), Thomas de Leu (1571-1611/1612), and Caesare Capranica (active between 1589 and 1602). Of these, only the version by Capranica preserves the tree at the left of the original composition. This tree is present, however, in the painting —as well as in Sadeler's corresponding version.
